Short Fast Run - Jervois Road

This is the 2nd last run at the club before the Ipoh Run. There are 2 routes- long or short. For those who decided to do long, a new route is introduced. Instead of the usual route towards Ridley Park, they will run in to Margaret drive - Swettenham-Grange road. This is about 13km. For me, I decided to do a short and faster pace run. The distance is 7km whereby we will U-turn at Jervois Rd and head back to club.

We started off at 6.50pm. Teen and I did a little catch up on one another activites along Henderson road. My hubby, Ong accompanied me for the 1st 2km of the run before he was advised by Chairman to speed off to join in the front group. I managed to catch up with the front group at the traffic junction of Grange Road. As I turned to the Canal, I saw from afar that Kumaran was breaking away from the group... almost 100m ahead with Ong, Akira and the rest chasing after him. I enjoyed running along the Canal because the park just opened 2 weeks ago sowe can avoid taking the main road with heavy flow of vehicles. As I was keeping my pace and enjoy the surrounding with Wong, Adam and Colleen just ahead of me, I saw a dragon like shaped formed by the clouds which let me forget my hard breathing for a moment. The sight is really beautiful and drewing me towards it. Soon I reached the junction where Akira was waiting for those who wanted to do the short route. 5 of us, Akira, Chin, Colleen, Uncle Ah Kow and me did the short route. Colleen suggested to do a faster pace since we are doing a short one. I tried my best to run as fast as I can. So glad to make it back to the club almost breathless hahaha....

    Sunday Run @ Mt. Faber

Today my dear planned to run the Mt.Faber route.. not the usual route tt we did during our weekly runs at the club. This is the last sunday run before the Ipoh International Run that we will be participating. The sky was quite cloudy when we started at around 3pm, which helped to shade of the glaring sun. After a short warmup session at the fitness corner, we started off our Sunday run at the traffic junction near the club.

I started off with my normal pace along Henderson route. Soon we reached the Telok Blangah road, I felt strong physically and mentally. My mind kept telling myself tt I can do it. When we were reaching the bus stop of Habourfront, I was glad that people were kind to move in alittle to let us have some space to ran across except for a group of 5 guys just stood and blocked the whole pavement! I have to E-break and step down to the bus zone. Lucky there was no bus coming from behind if not I might have been hit. I was quite angry for a moment but thinking it was not worth to affect my mood for my run.

I maintained my pace all the way past Habourfront to Mt Faber. We went up from the steeper side of MF. I started to breathe abit harder as I ran up MF with smaller steps. I was breatheless when i hit 3/4 of the steepest pt of the slope and walk up abit trying to catch back my breathe. The last time i ever ran this slope was more than a year ago. Ong is very strong as he ran up the slope. He always love MF, the challenge for him to conquer the hill. We ran to the cable car station, which is currently under renovation, for a short toilet break. Ong asked if I am ok with the pace as he timed tt I did 23mins for the 4km which is quite fast for me. But I felt good and we ran all the way down to MF and back to the route which we ran past early to Habourfront and to the usual ending point of our usual 4km/10km route. It had been ages since I last did this route and I am glad to finish feeling good without any pains tt i felt for my last 2 runs. Maybe it is due to the bananas that I ate 2 hrs prior to the run. I was feeling quite hungry after the 10km as I skipped lunch to do the run.

    Short Heavy Run to Labrador

The weather was abit warm this evening. A few old time runners like Jimmy, Adrian and Melvin and Dennis were back. Our busy busy acc, Teen was back too. =D She was very busy with work lately and have not been coming down for run. Glad to see her back today. We had a short chat with Anton, who was having a sore throat today but that din dampen his mood to run. He looked very energetic and enthusiatic.

The route for today is Labrador-MF/Habourfront.. Those who wanted to do long, will be gg for MF.. short will be to Labrador Park and back to club... that's what i planned to do today. I started off at the back of the group with Teen, Andre, Wong and Yen. I caught up with Chairman at Alexandra rd. As usual, he advise me to do my pace and stay light. As I was approaching the junction to the Labrador Park, I saw Eng Hwa group preparing to run across the traffic junction. I picked up my pace a little hoping to go through it with them and maybe get to skip the slope. But the traffic was heavy and the red man appeared very fast. I only managed to cross half of the junction. I turned back and saw Chairman behind me.. meaning no way to escape the slope this time. hahahaha... the fast runners knew tt those who spotted by/run with Chairman will definitely got to do the slope.. no wonder all ran so fast.. gone with the wind.. before Chairman can shout from afar "Up the Hill!" "Up the Hill" like on e Tuesday run.. hehehehe.... My leg started to get heavier as I ran up Labrador slope. I was breathing hard. One part of my mind was raising the white flag but I told myself.. No I must do it.. just a little bit more.. die die also must endure it. I was panting really hard as I tried to recover my breathe at the down slope. I saw Wong outside the toilet of the park. He skipped the slope and ran in from the other way. I felt really slow as I ran round the park. My legs were like having weights on them and I can hardly carried them. Even Jimmy teased me to stop "walking"... start "running" after he had finished the 2nd loop of the park with EngHwa, Sok Hwa and Paul. On the way out of the park, our doc, Adrian asked me why I am so quiet in our yahoo group lately... hahaha b4 I catch my breathe to answer him, he already far ahead. Soon Teen was beside me and we ran back to the club. It was a slow, heavy run for me. Felt I did better than Tuesday. So rewarded myself with a nice bowl of Cheng Thng and a good laughing dinner session after the run.

    Gloomy run

The group turnout was quite small, about 11 of us. The weather was rather gloomy today. Same as my mood. Maybe it's due to the long day and the skipped lunch. The dizzling stopped when we started our weekly run at around 6.50pm. The route is the same as last tuesday. Canterburry-Labrador. My dear hubby, Ong, suggested I ran a shorter route today and he plans to do a tempo run. He looks very energetic and enthusiatic with the run. During the run @ depot run, Ong, Chairman, Kuamran and Paul were leading quite far away from the group. When I reached the end of depot road, I signalled to chairman that I'm not going into Canterburry and he asked me to wait for them at Labrador park.... as I ran towards SAJC, I started to feel a sharp pain at the left side of my waist and seems like something is bouncing up and down. I tried to adjust my running pace and posture and think of other things to divert my pain. But I find it unbearable when I reach the junction to Labrador park. I was having 2nd thoughts if i should go into Labrador... I decided not to and walked with my hand holding tight to my left waist. I got this pain on my Sunday run @ the stadium too. I thought it was due to the late Sunday lunch but seems like it is not. I walk-a-jog back to the club, doing less than 5km. I felt very disappointed. My hubby, Ong, did great today. He, Kumaran and Paul were having lots of fun pacing one another. They did 3 rounds of Canterbury and 2 rounds of Labrador. From their expressions, all of the fellow runners enjoyed their run very much. I felt very proud of them and wished I was there too to join in the fun.

Finally made it to the Esplanade

I and my hubby, Ong started @ 6.56pm.. We were late today as I was tied up by work... Our fellow runners have started about 10mins earlier. Today's route is from Henderson all the way to Esplanade. Though I have ran this route several times.. but i have never make it to Esplanade.. normally i will U-turn @ Clark Quay and head back to club. Ong guided me a shorter path through Beo crescent so we can catch up with the rest. Soon we saw the group just ahead of us at Zion road. We managed to join in the qroup after Clark Quay bridge. My breathing gets abit heavier and my legs started to get tired.. must be due to the 3.5hrs visit to CommunicAsia @ expo earlier today as i walked through the exhibits from hall 6 - hall 1 - hall 6.. find it more tiring to walk than run.. hahaha

I picked up my pace as we are approaching Esplanade cos water pt, Toilet is just ahead.. hahahaha.. To my surprise, I heard my name called @ the underpass of Nicoll Highway. It was quite dark then but I recgonised my gf's voice, Weifang. We stopped for a quick chat and ran towards the waterpt. I felt much better after taking a few sips and headed back to SAFRA.

Along the way, i started to feel some pain at my heart again. I slowed down my pace and breath regularly to control. Soon the pain eased off. We ran back the same route we did earlier on. I am so happy to complete the whole route. It has been a rewarding run for me today :D

Weekly Run @ SAFRA MF - Canterbury - Labrador Park

This is my very first time to write my running log. After much encouragement from my hubby, Ong and a fellow running friend, Anthony, I decided to give it a try.

I reached SAFRA earlier than usual, around 6.15pm because I get to drive today! =) The sky looked overcast. After changing into my running gear and walking towards the small corner of the club to place my barang barang, it has started to rain. But that didn’t sunken our mood to run. We almost had a full strength of runners, about 20 of us, with Adrian, TongLin, Yen back except for our Teen, who is tied down with new assignment. We have a new runner with us, Colleen’s colleague, Jeffery. Chariman announced the route that we will be running--> Depot Road-Canterbury-Labrador Park… This route is very nice, with slopes and fresh air, as it is a private resident area where most of the residents are ang mohs.

We started our run at 6.50pm. At the start of the run, I and Colleen had a short chat. I always admired her stamina. She can talk and run fast at the same time without panting. I always feel breathless when I run and talk at the same time. Haha can't multitask in running...

Sok Hwa, Eng Hwa and Anthony were just ahead of us when we ran towards Canterbury. I felt quite good so far as I have been resting since my last Thursday run to the Botanic garden. I tried to keep pace with Yuen, Jimmy, Lee, Colleen, Jeffery and Evelyn. Soon we reached the slope, I was breathing abit harder as i ran up. Soon I reached the junction of York road, no shortcuts without Ong around and Chariman behind… hahaha ... I felt easy this time as I hopped up the slope of York Road and let my leg do the running as I tried to recover during the down slope. Soon I saw Mr Foo running out of Winchester loop when we were about to run in. Then I felt someone running beside me, it’s Ong. He gg for his 2nd Wincester loop so he can company me to run as he had promised… hehehe... Paul joined in with his 2nd round too. Ong asked him to do the 3rd round and he joked that he is still young and a lot of things have yet to accomplish like being a dad. Hahah that really make me forget about my pain for a while. I felt heavy in my breathing as I was tried to keep pace with Ong. I slowed down to relax myself as I still have Labrador park to go. Paul, Yuen and Jimmy went ahead with their pace as we moved out of Canterbury road.

I managed to catch up with Jimmy and Yuen at the Alexandra junction towards Labrador. I started to cough out hard as we waited at the traffic junction. My throat was feeling very dry. Lee, Evelyn, Colleen and Hock Soon joined in and we moved on passing the food centre. I dare not breathe in so much cos the fragance of the food will make me more hungry... wanted to buy a 100plus from the drink store to quench my thrist... but din bring any $$ along... hehehe... =P I tried to keep relax and stay focus to get back my pace. But I felt tired and dry in my throat. We saw Kumaran and Akira running back to club as we were approaching the park. I was not feeling so good and told Ong to go ahead as I need to take some sips of water from the toilet. Though I missed the 800m loop at the park, I felt much better after drinking some water and knew I needed that badly to make it back to the club. I saw Paul and Eng Hwa doing their rounds at the park as I came out from the toilet and told them that I waiting for Ong. Paul thought Ong was in the toilet and went to the toilet and shouted for him... hahaha.. so funny.... I quickly told him that Ong was running in the park. Soon I saw Mr Foo followed by Anthony.. they had finished their rounds and heading back to the club. I informed them that I am waiting for Ong and asked them to go ahead without me. Ong came soon after and we headed back towards the club.

We saw Anthony just ahead of us and Ong suggested to set him as my pacer... keeping sight with him. I felt confident and increased my speed when I managed to maintain about 100m away from him. As we approached the Henderson road, I heard footsteps closing up behind me. It was Sok Hwa, she was moving up fast and smooth. She overtook me when we were about 800m away from the club. I continued to maintain my speed and felt a sharp pain below my heart. I always have this problem when I exerted myself too hard. I am just 200m from the club. I told myself, I must overcome this weakness and pushed all the way to the end. Overall, I felt I had a good run today as I haven tried this full route before... always with cut here and there.. hehehe.. :"> I am quite satisfied with my pace as I had tried hard and maintained my speed. Though I felt uncomfortable during certain parts of the run, I am glad to overcome it. =D
